Introducing: Georgia’s Task Force for Empowering Blind Independence!

Listen here

Dear Readers,

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of a new nonprofit, Georgia's Task Force for Empowering Blind Independence!

In 2024, a group of passionate, solution-focused leaders came together to assess what people with vision loss need most to become financially self-sufficient, and whether those resources were available statewide.

We'd like to introduce you to the team working together to build community-informed, high-impact solutions.

You talked and we listened. We heard the demand for independence training and support services in Georgia exceeds the supply. Therefore, we must build local capacity.

We heard the sooner people connect with vision rehabilitation after diagnosis, the better their mental health outcomes. Therefore, we must make help easier to find.

We heard bringing life skills training into local communities expands real access to independence. Therefore, we must carry instruction into more communities.

We have begun taking concrete steps to build capacity and close service gaps.

This Task Force is unlike anything else in Georgia—a collaboration between individual vision rehabilitation professionals and the blind community, nurturing a responsive support ecosystem to address concerns many people have never even heard about.

If you're reading Promoting Independence, you’re likely in the know—but are your friends?

Please spread the word and stay tuned for more news coming soon!
